Box Score Amherst, Mass. - Colby women's lacrosse narrowly defeated the Mammoths of Amherst College in a tight 12-11 match today. The Mules improve to a record of 3-0 in conference and 5-0 overall.
Defense was on point for both teams for nearly two thirds of the first quarter, with the first goal occurring with 6:40 left on the clock. Amherst was quick to push back, scoring two goals for every goal scored by Colby and resulting in a 4-2 lead for the Mammoths. In the middle of the second quarter, the Mules bookended two goals scored by Amherst, holding the Mammoths to their two-goal lead for a 6-4 score at the half. Colby had a strong start to the third quarter, scoring three goals before Amherst answered with two, narrowing the Mammoths lead to only a single goal at a score of 8-7. In the highest-scoring quarter of the game, Amherst and Colby traded short spurts of goals scored. Then, with less than a minute on the clock,
Julia Jardina made a free position shot to put the Mules in the lead. The game ended with a 12-11 score for Colby.
Jardina led the team offensively with four goals, and
Kins Helmer close behind with three goals of her own.

Jillian Kane, the Mules had three times the saves relative to Amherst.
