Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Aidan Simmonds

Tough First Half Sees Colby Drop to Middlebury

Middlebury, Vermont - After a slow start to the game, Colby couldn't recover from an early deficit, even though they outscored Middlebury in the second half. The Mules fell to the Panthers 74-87, taking their record to 13-9 overall and 4-4 in NESCAC conference play.

The first half unfortunately determined the outcome of the game as Middlebury came out flying. Colby struggled shooting from beyond the arc, going 15% percent in a game where they shot a season-low 16%. However, the Mules made up for their perimeter struggles in the paint where Jack Lawson and Marcos Montiel each registered all their points. The pair combined for 29 points, 4 assists each, and 7 and 8 rebounds respectively.

The starters continued to shine through Max Poulton, who buried 4 of Colby's 6 three-pointers, and also grabbed 6 rebounds and 2 steals on the night. The other two three's came from Sam Hinman who continues to make a huge impact for Colby off the bench, putting up 10 points and shooting 100% from the free throw line. However, even after a strong second half, individual heroics couldn't pull the Mules level.
Colby is back in action Friday, February 14, as they host Trinity in their second-to-last game of the season.
