Amherst, MA - The Colby College Mules (11-5-3, 6-5-2) defeated the Amherst College Mammoths (8-10-1, 5-7-1) by a score of 4-2 in their Friday night matchup at Amherst College.
The Mules lost in a shootout with Bowdoin last week, and resilience was a major theme of tonight's contest. Amherst scored just after the five minute mark to take a quick 1-0 lead.
Massimo Gentile responded a minute later, burying the puck in the back of the net to even the score. Gentile's goal was assisted by
Max O'Brien and
Tyler Crist.
Amherst scored again in the second period, this time shorthanded. A significant blow to most teams, but three minutes later (at the 6:02 mark),
Nick Stapleton scored via assists from
Dan Juzych and Crist. Later in the period,
Max Abene scored to give the Mules a 3-2 lead.
Colby put the nail in the coffin early in the fourth period when
Will Molson scored with assists from
Bobby Landry and
Matthew MacDonald.
Cooper Rautenstrauch tallied 44 saves during the game. Colby won 32 faceoffs to Amherst's 25.
The Mules will return to action on Saturday, February 8 at 3:00 PM when they take on #8 Hamilton College in Clinton, NY.
