Colby Finishes Regular Season with a Win Over #2 Middlebury

Waterville, Maine – The Colby College Women's Ice Hockey team closed out their regular season against the Middlebury Panthers. In their final home game, the Mules honored their eleven seniors—Anna Staton, Lauren Fraser, Georgia Pettygrove, Sydney McCormack, Abby Wick, Kylie Makuh, Audrey Shirer, Anya Jiang, Mandy Busky, Paige Bolyard, and Lily Wisniewski. Despite Middlebury's high ranking, the Mules took command to secure a 2-0 win. Despite Middlebury's high ranking, the Mules took complete control, earning another impressive 2-0 victory.  

Both the Mules and Panthers brought high intensity into today's game. Colby earned an early power play at 6:23 in the first period, but despite their efforts, they couldn't capitalize. In the opening 20 minutes, the Mules totaled nine shots on goal, won 10 of 19 faceoffs, and goaltender Mandy Busky made nine saves. Heading into the second period tied at 0-0, the Mules set out to take control. At 14:15, Staton broke the deadlock to give Colby a 1-0 lead, and less than 90 seconds later, Jiang doubled the advantage to 2-0. Busky added seven saves for the remainder of the period, keeping the Panthers' from breaking through. In the final period, Colby maintained strong offensive and defensive play, with Busky's 13 saves keeping Middlebury scoreless. After 60 minutes of play, and another shutout for Busky, the Mules' hard work earned them another well-deserved victory.

The Mules will play in the NESCAC quarterfinals next Saturday, with the game schedule and opponent to be announced soon.
