Middletown, CT. - Colby had its last regular season game Saturday against Wesleyan University, defeating the Cardinals 65-49. The Mules rounded out their record in NESCAC at 7-3 and overall at 13-10.
Colby started and stayed strong offensively throughout the entire game. Their highest-scoring quarter came out of the gate, amassing 19 points while holding Wesleyan down to 13. Both teams stepped up the defense in the second quarter resulting in the lowest-scoring quarter for the Mules at 13 points. Still, Colby managed to hold Wesleyan off by keeping them at just 11, so Colby secured a solid 32-24 lead going into the second half. Colby's defense was nothing if not consistent, holding the Cardinals to the same 11 while pushing to get 15 points for themselves. Wesleyan's offense would not give up, securing a game-high 14 points in the fourth quarter, but their defense was still no match for Colby. The Mules racked up 18 points to round out the game with a 65-49 victory over the Cardinals.
Lydia Mordarski led the team in points scored with 16 and tied in leading rebounds with seven.
Kate Olenik, the other player to contribute seven rebounds, also scored 15 points. The other two Colby players to score in the double digits were
Amelia Hanscom with 13 and
Ana Von Rumohr with 10.
Chelsea Ibenegbu led the team in steals with three and accumulated five rebounds.
