Colby Advances to NESCAC Semis in Double Overtime Win

Waterville, Maine. - Colby made a strong start in the Quarterfinals of the NESCAC Tournament in a historic 100-97 win over the Panthers of Middlebury College. The Mules are now 14-10 overall. 

Colby started out slow against Middlebury, conceding 21 points while securing 15 themselves. Once they were warm, they were able to bounce back, scoring 17 points while holding the Panthers to 16. The Mules were down at the half 38-32, but came into the third quarter ready to fight. Both teams had an offensive push in the third quarter, with Middlebury scoring 28 and Colby scoring 27. Then Colby outdid itself with a huge comeback in the fourth quarter, out-scoring the Panthers 22-16 for a score of 81 all at the final buzzer. Onto overtime the teams went, battling out only to tie the game once again with a score of 90 all. The Mules broke NESCAC history by fighting into the first double overtime ever in a Women's Basketball Tournament game. The Panthers pushed hard but the Mules pushed harder, securing a final victory of 100-97 over Middlebury. 

In addition to being the first game in NESCAC Tournament for Women's Basketball history to go to double overtime, Colby was the first team to score 100 points in a NESCAC Tournament game. They set the NESCAC Tournament record for most points in a tournament game, topping Bowdoin's record 96 points in 2019. 

Amelia Hanscom had a double-double this weekend with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Kate Olenik was Colby's top scorer with 29 points, team leader in assists with eight, and team leader in steals with three. Ana Von Rumohr contributed 24 points and led the team in blocks with two. 

Colby next faces off in Brunswick, Maine on Saturday at 4:30 pm against the Bantams of Trinity College.
