Waterville, ME - The Colby College Mules (12-5-5, 7-5-4) tied the #13 Trinity College Bantams (14-6-2, 10-4-2) by a score of 1-1 in their Saturday afternoon contest. The game progressed to overtime and a subsequent shootout in which the Bantams emerged victorious by a score of 2-1.
Tonight's game was also senior night for the Mules -
Javi Ubarri,
Jake MacDonald,
Will Molson,
Nick Stapleton,
Derek Hessinger, and
Max O'Brien were celebrated for their four incredible years as Mules.
Ten power plays were the calling card of a hard-fought game.
Cooper Rautenstrauch saved 41 shots over the course of the game, while Colby stayed hot at the dots - the Mules won 45 faceoffs to Trinity's 32.
The action picked up in the third period. With
Massimo Gentile in the penalty box, Trinity scored at the 7:57 mark. However, Gentile exited the box with a full head of steam and wristed a pass to
Will Soloway, who scored two minutes later.
With the game tied at one apiece, the teams battled through a scoreless overtime into the shootout. Down early 1-0, Gentile again provided heroics with an opening goal. However, the Mules were ultimately stopped on each subsequent attempt, and Trinity pulled through for the 1-0 win.
The Mules will return to action on Friday, February 21 at 7:00 PM when they travel to Medford, MA to take on the Tufts University Jumbos.
