Waterville, Maine - The Colby College Women's Ice Hockey team faced the Seahawks of Salve Regina this afternoon in a mid-day non-conference matchup. Following the first period, the Mules hosted their annual teddy bear toss, with all stuffed animals donated to local organizations. Colby delivered a dominant performance, with five different players scoring to secure a 7-1 victory.
The Mules opened the game with immediate intensity, striking just one minute in when
Emily Olsthoorn scored off assists from
Marion Legge and
Courtney Schumacher. At 4:25, Schumacher doubled the lead, assisted by Legge along with
Breanna Studley.
Megan Martodam added another at 10:51, with an assist from
Molly Lefebvre to make it 3-0. Colby dominated the opening period with 38 shots, while
Ally Martiniello made two saves in net. Entering the second period up 3-0, the Mules kept their foot on the gas. Olsthoorn netted her second of the game at 4:57, assisted by Legge. Just over three minutes later at 8:16,
Maria Pierce extended the lead to 5-0 with more assists from Lefebvre and Studley. With 2:16 remaining in the period,
Lizzy Hamel made it a 6-0 game, off passes from Legge and
Julie Jasaitis. Colby fired 23 more shots in the period, won 14 of 19 faceoffs, and Martiniello stopped two more shots. Pierce added her second of the day 7:11 into the third period, scoring off assists from
Allie Corrieri and Studley to make it 7-0. Colby continued to control play with 25 shots in the final period.
Serafina Applegate took over in goal for the third and made six saves. Legge led the offense with four assists, while Olsthoorn and Pierce each scored twice. Legge and Studley also led the team with 10 shots apiece. Given Colby's strong efforts, they secured a dominant 7-1 victory.
Colby will travel to New York to face Utica University on Saturday, January 3rd.Â
