Waterville, ME - In their home opener on Saturday, the Mules put up a gritty fight at the top of the ladder but ultimately fell 6–3 to the Big Green.
Colby opened the match with a standout performance from Nathalie Sim '27 in the number two spot. Sim's strong tactical play in the decisive frame pushed her past her opponent (11–8, 7–11, 12–10, 6–11, 11–7) and gave the Mules momentum in the opening stretch of the match. The team picked up its second win at the number three spot, where Abhisheka David '26 rebounded after dropping the first game. In the last round of matches, Laavanya Kugan '26 delivered one of the days most dramatic wins at the number one spot in a match lasting 58 minutes. After splitting the first four games, Kugan fought back from two match balls to win 13-11 in front of an electric home crowd.
Despite the spread, the Mules battled throughout the lineup. Tori Thill '28 picked up a game in her match at number seven and several other players pushed their opponents in tight scorelines.
The Mules are back in action after a holiday break playing Tufts on January 9th.
