Standish, Maine - Colby Men's Basketball traveled down south to face Saint Joseph's College of Maine, where they suffered their first defeat to the Monks since 2008. The 82-81 overtime loss takes the Mules to 6-1 on the season, ending their undefeated run to start the season.Â
Colby had a dominant first half, leading by as much as 17 three separate times. Dan Civello, Max Poulton, and Matthew Lamy were instrumental in helping the Mules break away, taking them from a one-point lead to double-digits in the span of four minutes. Colby led 46-34 heading into the half.
Coming out of the break, as the scoreline suggests, Saint Joseph's crawled their way back. The Monks tied the game with two minutes to go, even taking the lead. Marcos Montiel responded with a go-ahead layup, and later, Civello tied the game with 16 seconds left, forcing overtime. A triple from Sam Hinman and a jumper from Civello kept Colby ahead by two, but the Monks had an answer for every shot. Eventually, the Mules were kept scoreless in the last two and a half minutes, leading to a free throw from Saint Joseph's as the decider.Â
Colby is back in action on Tuesday, December 16th, as they travel to Castine, Maine, to face Maine Maritime Academy.
