Beethe & DeMartino Named Top 50 Women Leaders of Maine

Women We Admire has announced The Top 50 Women Leaders of Maine for 2025 and Colby's own Harold Alfond Director of Athletics, Amanda V. DeMartino and Director of Peak Performance, Dr. Anne Beethe have been selected.

Maine's identity reaches well beyond its iconic coastline. The state is defined by its strong communities, distinct regional character, and a deep connection to its working waterfronts and natural environment. While its history is rooted in shipbuilding, fishing, and papermaking, Maine today supports a broad mix of industries, including healthcare, tourism, clean energy, advanced manufacturing, life sciences, and education. The women recognized this year reflect the steady leadership and practical problem-solving that continue to shape Maine's future.

Amanda V. DeMartino has entered her second year at Colby as the Harold Alfond Director of Athletics for the 2025-26 academic year. For the past 19 years, DeMartino has been involved in all aspects of intercollegiate athletics, was named one of the youngest Athletic Directors in the nation in 2009, and most recently was selected Athletic Director of the Year for Division III by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics in 2022.

Dr. Anne Beethe currently serves as the Director of Peak Performance at Colby College. Peak is the first NCAA Division III high-performance model, which includes sports medicine, strength and conditioning, mental performance, nutrition, and sport science. The purpose of peak performance is to optimize the health and performance of all Colby student-athletes by integrating these disciplines to serve all 750 student-athletes. Dr. Beethe is the first full-time director of the program, holding the position since July of 2022, and also serves as the department's Sport Scientist at this time.
