Despite yesterday's loss, the Mules stepped onto the ice with confidence. Halfway through the first period, Colby earned their first power-play opportunity of the game, and at 11:04 senior
Courtney Schumacher capitalized, setting the lead for the Mules with her first goal of the season, assisted by
Jo Tattersall and
Emily Olsthoorn. Colby outshot Bowdoin 18-8 in the opening period, while goaltender
Ally Martiniello made two saves. Entering the second period ahead, the Mules were determined to maintain their lead. They showed strong control on both ends of the ice, earning two more power-play opportunities and firing 22 additional shots. Martiniello added four more saves as Colby continued to control thr play, and the period ended scoreless. The third period saw plenty of back-and-forth action. At 12:44, Schumacher struck again for her second of the game, doubling the Mules' lead. Less than 90 seconds later,
Megan Martodam added another, assisted by
Breanna Studley to put Colby up 3-0. Bowdoin responded with two goals in the final minutes, but Martiniello stood strong with 10 saves in the period to preserve the lead. Colby held off the Polar Bears' final push to secure the exciting 3-2 win. Studley led the Mules with 14 shots, while Martiniello finished with 16 total saves.
The Mules are back in Waterville on Tuesday to face the University of Southern Maine with a 5:00 PM puck drop.
