Waterville, Maine - The Colby College Women's Ice Hockey team faced the University of Southern Maine in a midweek non-conference matchup. The Mules and Huskies battled hard, but Colby's determination and strong efforts led them to a 3-2 victory.
The Mules came onto the ice with high energy and control. At 10:43,
Courtney Schumacher opened the scoring to put Colby ahead 1-0, assisted by
Jo Tattersall and
Beth Sinson. With less than 30 seconds remaining in the period at 19:31,
Emily Olsthoorn doubled the Mules' lead with her first collegiate goal, assisted by
Keirstyn Camiolo and
Breanna Studley. Colby dominated the first period with 30 total shots, while goaltender
Ally Martiniello made two saves. Entering the second period with a two-goal advantage, the Mules kept their composure. USM scored just three minutes in, but Colby held strong. Although no goals were scored, the Mules fired 25 more shots and won 14 of 20 faceoffs to maintain their momentum. With a 2-2 lead entering the third, Colby was determined to extend it. At 5:43,
Molly Lefebvre scored her first of the season to make it 3-1 Mules. USM added a goal with three minutes left, but Colby's defense and Martiniello's 11 saves kept the Huskies from breaking through again. Colby ended the night with an impressive 73 total shots compared to USM's 33. Studley led the way with eight shots, as the Mules ended the third with a 3-2 win.
