Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Aidan Simmonds

Civello's 35-Point Game Takes Colby to 4-0

Waterville, Maine - It's that time of the year. Thanksgiving is coming, the Cowboys and Lions are going to be playing, and an aging NBA star just dropped a 50-piece on a struggling Eastern Conference team. Just like James Harden's performance tonight against the Hornets, Dan Civello just did the same to Endicott College. The sophomore continues to have a strong start to the season and is moving like a 6'10 version of prime Harden. Civello shot 7 for 10 from beyond the arc and grabbed 7 rebounds in his 35-point performance; I can just hear Stephen A., "he's averaging 20!"

Colby defeated Endicott 93-89, continuing their undefeated start to the season and moving to 4-0 overall. The last time the Mules started 4-0 was in their 2022 season, where they reached 20 wins. This season looks no different. Civello continues to prove that he's, really good at basketball, while Marcos Montiel and Max Poulton's leadership and experience are showing.

Colby led the whole first half and was really no match for the Gulls. No disrespect to the opponent, but I wouldn't want to play a team with the chemistry of the Oklahoma City Thunder either. In all seriousness, the Mules had one of their best performances of the season, shooting 53% from beyond the arc and 48% from the paint. They led heading into the half, 49-33, not only a high scoring half offensively, but defensively were just as dominant. Savion Stroud forced three of the five steals for Colby, while on the glass, the Mules out-rebounded Endicott 23-12.

Although Colby was outscored in the second half, they continued to make shots and had a response for almost everything from the Gulls. The largest run the Mules allowed was 7 points unanswered, that was until the last few minutes when Endicott surprisingly pulled within three. Going forward, Colby will have to make sure to close out games sooner, but today's win showed the potential for this team. Tanking for a draft pick? Not this year.

Colby is back in action on Tuesday, November 25th, as they head to Newton, Massachusetts, to face Lasell University.
