Women's Ice Hockey Hosting Bowdoin Friday to Begin 2025-26 Season

Waterville, Maine - The 11th preseason ranked Colby Women's Ice Hockey team is set to open the new season this Friday, November 21st right here on Mayflower Hill against Bowdoin. The Mules will then head to Brunswick the following day to face the Polar Bears on their home ice. The Mules will look to avenge last seasons results of falling to Bowdoin 2-0 and 3-2 (OT) during the regular season.

Last season was an monumental one from Colby finishing with 18 wins while the team made their third NCAA Tournament appearance in the last four season. The team defeated #11 Wilkes 4-3 in the opening round before falling to #2 Amhers 4-1 in the quarterfinals. Before that the Mules made their way to a fifth straight NESCAC semifinals game. After beating Trinity 2-1 in the conference quarterfinals, Colby came up short to Middlebury 3-0.

The top three goal scorers for the Mules return from last year including All-American Breanna Studley. The senior totaled nine goals and seven assists as a defender last year including 32 blocked shots and an impressive +15 plus/minus stat. Senior forward Courtney Schmacher had eight goals and eight assists in the 2023-24 campaign with junior forward Molly Lefebvre right behind her with seven goals to go along with 10 assists (most points on the team). Out of those seven goals, five were game winners showing Lefebvre's strength in close matchups. Senior Jo Tattersall was a big defensive presence for Colby last season leading the team with 46 blocked shots while tallying a pair of goals and seven assists. In the goalkeeping category we will wait to see who will step up to take Mandy Busky's '25 place as the starting goaltender.

A large senior class of nine will provide leadership to the team this season as the Mules are joined by a first-year group of ten looking to make an impact on the program right away.

Head Coach Holley Tyng returns to the helm of Colby Women's Ice Hockey now in her tenth season. She is assisted by Taylor Leech in her first season with the Mules. Leech had a five year career playing for the University of Maine appearing in 133 games and serving as a two-time captain. Jillian Flynn returns as the goaltender coach who joined the program ahead of the 2021-22 season.

Friday's season opener here at the Jack Kelley Rink is set for a 7:00pm start. Fans can follow alongside the action using the live video and live stats links as well as check out the schedule tab to catch the Mules when they come to a location near you.
