Waterville, Maine - The Colby College Men's Ice Hockey team played their second game of the season against the Middlebury Panthers at home on Saturday afternoon. Colby took a 2-0 lead early and held onto it, finishing with a 3-2 win. With a strong home-opening weekend, the Mules now stand 2-0-0 overall in the NESCAC.
Coming off a dominant 3-0 win on Friday night, the Mules came out on fire. Sophomore
Will Soloway netted his first goal of the season just 11 seconds into the game, with assists coming from sophomore
Wyatt Schmidek and senior
Connor Gallagher. With this early lead Colby didn't give up, taking 11 shots on goal in the first 20 minutes, evenly matched with Middlebury's 10. Sophomore

Noah Carpenter, giving the Mules a 2-0 lead to the end the period. The second period was a scoreless 20 minutes, Middlebury dominating with 13 shots on goal compared to Colby's 7.Â
In an eventful third period, Middlebury found their first of the night seven minutes in on a power play, making it a one-goal game. Shortly after, senior
Jayden Grier answered back, taking the puck from the blue line into the Panther offensive zone and sneaking it past the goalie for his first goal of the season. Just over a minute later, Middlebury scored another powerplay goal against the Mules, making it 3-2 game with just 10 minutes left to play. Despite Middlebury's effort with 12 shots on goal and five power play attempts in the third, Colby remained strong on defense and finished with a 3-2 win. Cooper Rautenstrauch held down the defense for the Mules and guided them to a successful 2–0 weekend.Â
