Mules Upset No. 4 Amherst to Advance to NESCAC Semifinals

Amherst, Mass. - The Colby College Women's Soccer team faced No. 4 Amherst College in the NESCAC Quarterfinals this afternoon. The Mules played a strong, composed game and defeated the Mammoths 2-0 to advance to the next round.

Colby came out with high energy, playing a strong and defensive first half. Starting goalkeeper MK Marshall made two key saves to keep the Mammoths off the board. Amherst continued to apply pressure, but the Mules held firm. With just three minutes left in the half, Eloisa Luczkow found the back of the net, giving Colby a 1-0 advantage heading into halftime. The second half saw several offensive opportunities from the Mules, with 10 total shots. After back-and-forth play, at 77:32, Abigail Jarvi doubled the lead off an assist from Amanda Schneider. With 13 minutes left to play, the Mules' defense and goalkeeper Sadie Gardner held strong, as she made three crucial saves to secure the 2-0 shutout victory to send Colby to the semifinals.

The Mules will advance to the NESCAC semifinals next weekend, which will be hosted by the highest remaining seed.
