WATERVILLE, Maine — Colby outlasted Tufts, 3–1 (23–25, 25–22, 25–16, 25–22), on Friday night at the Margaret M. Crook Center, improving to 16–1 overall and 6–1 in the NESCAC and pushing the Mules' winning streak to seven. Colby hit .236 to the Jumbos' .148, owned a 10–5 advantage at the net in total blocks, and out-dug Tufts 73–55.
After Tufts took the opener with a late push characterized by an ace and kill on set point, Colby leveled the match in the second behind steadier first-ball side outs and a late surge keyed by the two-setter offense. Sydney DeProfio found Marjorie Johnson twice in the final three points, including the clincher for 25–22. The third set swung decisively Colby's way when Cyanne Jones ripped consecutive service aces in an early run to 10–1; the block of Kendall Glover and Brady Moseley repeatedly turned back the middle and the Mules closed 25–16. The fourth set was tight throughout until a mid-set sequence of a Reese Loyd service ace and three Johnson terminations created a lead, and Moseley supplied the last two kills—first for set point and then the match for 25–22.
Johnson led all hitters with 15 kills, while LJ Grant added 10 and Moseley finished with nine and a match-high 17 digs. Jones supplied timely scoring on the pin and five total blocks, Glover matched her with five more kills, and Alexa Peguero chipped in two. DeProfio (23 assists) and Gabby Grujic (22) orchestrated a balanced attack with help from Loyd (eight), who paired her assist with 16 digs. Colby ended the night ahead in kills (56–48), assists (56–46), digs (73–55), and blocks (10–5), sealing a composed four-set victory over a Tufts side that entered 15–3 and 6–2 in the conference.
Colby returns to the Margaret M. Crook Center on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 2:00 p.m. to host Bates in another NESCAC game, looking to carry the seven-match winning streak into the matchup.
