Waterville, Maine - The Colby College Field Hockey played the Middlebury Panthers on Saturday. Colby fought hard for a full 60 minutes but it wasn't enough. Middlebury came away with a 2-1 win on the day. The Mules now stand 1-6 overall in the NESCAC conference.
Colby came out strong in the first half, playing an even game with the No. 4 ranked Middlebury. Despite their strong push, the Panthers capitalized early and took a 1-0 lead 10 minutes into the first quarter. Colby kept fighting in the second quarter, earring 4 shots and two offensive corners, but still weren't able to score. Middlebury scored a second goal off an offensive corner, making it a 2-0 game at halftime. The Mules came out hungry in the second half. Junior
Maddie Campbell scored her second goal of the season in a Mules offensive corner to make it a 2-1 game just three minutes into the third quarter. With this energy, Colby kept fighting, earning five shots and four offensive corners in the second half. The Mules earned an offensive corner with 14 seconds to play in the game. Sophomore
Hadley Swenson earned a shot on net, but Middlebury came up with the save and Colby wasn't able to tie the score despite their hard-fought effort. Sophomore
Ginna Jacoby recorded 15 saves during the game to give the Mules a fighting chance against the ranked Panthers.
Colby is back in action on Sunday at home against USM at 3pm.
