Waterville, ME - The Colby College Mules (8-2-1) defeated the University of New England Nor'easters (7-5-1) by a score of 4-3 in a thrilling Monday evening matchup.
Bobby Landry scored a goal with 2:22 remaining on the clockĀ to seal the victory.
The Mules were on fire for the first frame.
Matthew MacDonald scored with an assist by
Will Molson just 2:15 into the matchup.
Jake MacDonald scored a backhand flip to make the score 2-0 at the 11:02 mark. Three minutes later, Molson and Landry provided assists to
Connor Gallagher when he scored at the 14:35 mark.
The second period was a scrappy one, but neither team could capitalize. Colby took 25 shots during the period but couldn't convert.
The third period was a must-watch. UNE began to claw their way back, scoring at the 5:56 mark and again less than a minute later. At the 7:56 mark, the score was tied at 3-3 after another UNE goal. However, late game heroics from Landry saved the day for the Mules. M. MacDonald fought for the puck to the right of the net and made a no-look, cross-ice pass to Landry. Landry gathered once and buried the puck to seal a 4-3 victory.
Cooper Rautenstrauch had 22 saves for Colby. The Mules had 42 shots on goal to UNE's 25.
Colby will return to action on Friday, January 10 in Waterville when the Amherst College Mammoths visit the Jack Kelley rink.
