Waterville, Maine - Following an extensive eight game road stretch, Colby Men's Basketball returned to their home court for the first time since November 19th, facing Bates Sunday in a non-conference affair. In the end the Bobcats took a 74-63 victory sending the Mules back on the road empty handed for five more away games. The loss drops Colby's record to 8-4 on the season while Bates improves to 6-5.
The two teams played tight to open things up with the biggest lead of the first half being a mere five points for both squads.
Marcos Montiel finished the first 20 minutes of play with 10 points followed closely by
Nate Kwiecinski with eight points. The second half played out the same until the eight minute mark where the Bobcats climbed their way to a double digit lead (10). A three from
Ben Kaczmarek with five minutes left hoped to give some momentum to the Mules but Bates quickly responded and stayed in front the rest of the way.
Montiel led the Mules offense finishing the afternoon with 16 points, four assists and a pair of steals and rebounds.
Jack Lawson totaled nine points in the contest as
Sam Hinman finished with eight.
Men's Basketball's five-game road stretch will begin with their first NESCAC game of the season at Conn. College Friday night, January 10th, at 6:00pm.
