Jeffersonville, Vt. -
Lydia Riddell scored another podium in Giant Slalom as the Colby Alpine Ski Team opened the Saint Michael's Carnival at Smugglers Notch. The result marked the Alpine team's third podium of the young season and landed the women's team in second place.
The women got the action underway and placed four in the top thirty after run one. Riddell sat in seventh at the halfway point with
Carissa Cassidy and
Hannah Soria right behind her.
Althea Noyes sat in 29th in her carnival debut.
Harrison Digangi led the Colby men on the first run in 14th place, and
Patrick Coughlin joined him in the top thirty.
A more difficult second run set challenged the field, but both Riddell and Digangi rose to the challenge. Riddell matched her second-place finish from the opening Bates Carnival with a third-place finish. Digangi scored a season-best sixth-place finish.
Also scoring for the Mules were Cassidy in 14th and Soria in 18th.
Espen Hunt grabbed his first collegiate top-30 finish to score for the Mules, and Coughlin provided the third scorer.
The Mules are in third place as a team, trailing two-time carnival winners Dartmouth and the University of Vermont. They hold slight leads over Middlebury and the University of New Hampshire after day one. They will look to defend their third place tomorrow with the Slalom.
