Brunswick, Maine. - Colby faced off against defending NESCAC Champs Bowdoin College today, losing to the Polar Bears 61 - 56. The Mules are now 3-1 in conference and 9-8 overall.
Bowdoin gave it their all in the first quarter offensively, and Colby fought their hardest to keep up. Over that first quarter, Bowdoin racked up 18 to Colby's 16. While Colby fell short, they did have a buzzer-beater three point shot by
Lili Nagy land in to close that gap ever so slightly. During the second quarter, both teams stepped up defensively, though the gap remained roughly the same. Offense was strong but defense was stronger, the Mules scoring 11 to the Bears' 14. It was the lowest-scoring quarter total of the game. Not to worry, though, Colby would keep fighting into the third quarter, repeating a close two point deficit with a score of 17-15 for Bowdoin. Yet in the fourth quarter, it would be the Mules who take the lead. After coming up short by two points the quarter prior, Colby led by two, scoring 14 to Bowdoin's 12. You'd be hard-pressed to find a team with as much grit as the Mules in that quarter, but it wasn't quite enough; Colby ultimately fell to Bowdoin 61-56.
Colby's
Lydia Mordarski led offensively with 15 points, a steal, and an assist.
Kate Olenik's defense was on fire, racking up five steals in addition to 10 points and three assists of her own.
