Amherst, Mass. - Colby faced off on the road today against Amherst College, defeating the Mammoths 65-60. The Mules are now 10-8 overall and 4-1 in-conference.
The Mules started off strong in the first quarter, keeping the Mammoths down to single digits and racking up 13 points of their own. Amherst refused to give up, though, out-scoring the Mules 14 to Colby's 10. Still, Colby was leading at the half 23-21. The Mules came into the second half swinging, racking up 19 points to the Mammoth's 14 and widening their lead to 42-37 heading into the fourth quarter. And what a fourth quarter it was; both teams saw their best offensive showing of the day, each racking up 23 points. Despite the push by Amherst, Colby's lead endured and they came out on top with a final score 65-60.
This write-up would be empty without a celebration of
Kate Olenik who racked up 32 points (half of the total points scored by the team), three steals, and four rebounds.
Lydia Mordarski racked up 10 points, followed closely by
Amelia Hanscom with nine points, a team-high 14 rebounds, and two blocks.
The Mules have a quick turnaround tomorrow in Clinton, N.Y. at 3 pm against the Continentals of Hamilton College.
