Lewiston, Maine - After falling to Bates earlier in the season in a non-conference matchup, the Mules went to Lewiston and took over. Colby won resoundingly, dominating from the whistle and finishing strong. An 82-60 scoreline takes them to 10-6 overall and 2-1 in NESCAC conference play.
After shooting poorly from beyond the arc last game, the Mules bounced back by shooting almost 50% in the first half. However, the Mules didn't even register a three until 8 minutes after the jump. Jack Lawson and Ben Kaczmarek combined for 10 of Colby's first 12 points, resulting in a 12-2 lead. This gap would eventually grow after they started to bury their three-pointers. Rashard Doyal started the Mules off, followed by 3 from Sam Hinman and 2 from Dan Civello. Colby's ability to stretch the floor offensively helped them maintain their double-digit lead, with two exceptions, but also opened up the paint for Marcos Montiel. The sophomore effectively got to the rim and was sent to the line three times where he shot 6 for 6. The Mules' offensive dynamism took them into the half up 54-36
Coming out of the break, Colby didn't let off the gas but looked different on both ends. They held the Bobcats to a lower-scoring half with more energy on defense, credit to a more frequent rotation of players. The substitutes also contributed on the offensive end, specifically Hinman who continued to prove a threat to Bates from the perimeter. Lawson and Montiel carried their momentum over from the first half, both hitting double digits in scoring and registering 8 rebounds each. Montiel also registered 2 steals with his guard counterpart Savion Stroud grabbing 3–the last leading to Hinman's fifth three-pointer of the night.Â
This win was vital for a Colby team looking to gain momentum heading into the final stretch of their season. With important home games coming up after a long streak on the road, this team is starting to click and looks ready for even tougher opponents ahead.Â
The Mules are back in action Tuesday, January, 21st in Bangor, Maine as they face non-conference opponent Husson.
