Bangor, Maine - The Mules played Husson tonight in their last non-conference matchup of the year, taking care of business early on and shifting their focus onto 3 home NESCAC conference games to end a promising January. Colby defeated the Eagles 97-81, taking their record to 11-6 overall and 2-1 in NESCAC conference play.
After a 2-point deficit after the first possession, Marcos Montiel hit a go-ahead three-pointer inside the first minute and Colby never looked back. Their whole-game lead varied but the Mules looked comfortable on both sides, contrary to their last game where Bates crawled back within single digits after a double-digit deficit. Colby's 3-point shooting did carry over from their previous outing, shooting 47% in the first half. Montiel hit four in the first half while Max Poulton and Sam Hinman each had two for a dominant opening 20 minutes. The Mules lead heading into the break 45-30.
Coming out of the half, Colby continued to score effectively, showing versatility by scoring across the court. Jack Lawson once again finished inside the paint with ease, leading to a 20-point game. The senior also registered four assists and eight rebounds, two of which were offensive and led to layups as he fought through crowds around the rim. Savion Stroud also had a strong showing, registering 2 steals, five rebounds, and 13 points en route to a well-rounded night on both ends.Â
The Mules are in action next Saturday, January 25th, hosting NESCAC rivals Bowdoin in their second matchup of the year.
