Brunswick, Maine - Colby had their first run-in against rivals Bowdoin this season, looking to get an edge on their in-state competitors in a non-conference matchup. Ultimately, the Mules fell to the Polar Bears 63-82, taking them to 9-6 overall and 1-1 in NESCAC conference play.
Bowdoin got out to an early lead and retained it the whole game. Colby struggled from the perimeter and had to rely on chances inside. Marcos Montiel had a strong first half, getting to the rim effectively and drawing contact that sent him to the line. The Mules were effective from the free-throw line, something that they've been consistent at all season. Bowdoin lead heading into the half, 28-51.
Coming out of the break, Colby's gameplan remained the same as they patiently looked for gaps in the paint. Max Poulton was effective from inside the arc, knocking down jumpers and forcing his way into the lane for contested layups. Dan Civello had a tough job in the paint, fighting for four rebounds and five points to cap a ten-point, well-rounded night.Â
Colby is back in action Saturday, January 18th, as they travel to Lewiston, Maine to face Bates in their third NESCAC conference matchup.Â
