Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Women’s Ice Hockey Forces Hamilton to a Shootout

Clinton N.Y. - The Colby College Women's Hockey team played their second game of the weekend against the Continental's of Hamilton College. After three full periods of play, and two rounds of overtime, Colby fell to Hamilton in a shootout.

Looking for another win after yesterday's exciting OT ending, Colby brought the pressure right away. Even with a scoreless first period, Colby showed off their strong offense with 16 total shots and Mandy Busky held strong in the net with 8 saves. Looking to gain a lead, the Mules saw a power play opportunity and had some good chances, but were unable to capitalize. Going into the second period, Colby took control, firing two shots within the first 36 seconds. In the fifth minute, Hamilton added one to the board, but that did not bring the Mules down. They held strong for the remainder of the period, stopping all potential looks from the Continentals. Looking to tie up the game, Colby brought action into the third period with 22 total shots and one power play attempt. 12 minutes into the period, Courtney Schumacher netted the equalizer, which was assisted by Georgia Pettygrove and Molly Lefebvre. With eight minutes left of play, neither team was able to score and secure the win, so the Mules and Continentals headed into their first round of OT. After two full rounds of a five minute sudden death three-on-three overtime, neither team were able to find the back of the net so Colby and Hamilton entered an exciting shootout. After 70 minutes of intense play, the Mules fought hard but fell to the Continentals in the shootout after a 1-1 tie.

The Mules will next host the Camels of Connecticut College in Waterville next weekend.
