Clinton, N.Y. - The Colby College Women's Hockey team faced the Continentals of Hamilton College for the first time this season. The Mules won 3-2 in overtime and now have an overall record of 8-2-0.
Colby came into the game wasting no time, firing six shots within the first five minutes of play. The Mules fell 0-1 at 9:31 into the period but kept up the intensity. Looking for a goal,
Audrey Shirer set the equalizer at 16:24 into the period which was assisted by
Breanna Studley and
Molly Lefebvre. Going into the second period tied up at 1-1, the Mules played hard and fired 27 total shots as they looked to gain a lead. After minutes of strong offensive possession along with great defensive saves,
Lizzy Hamel broke the tie, scoring 11:55 into the period. Even with a player advantage for the Continentals, Colby's defense remained unstoppable as goaltender
Paige Bolyard made 10 key saves helping to keep the Mules ahead 2-1 as they head into the third period. Colby had 21 total shots in the period compared to Hamilton's 13. Staying strong in net, Bolyard made eight key saves in the period as it ended in a tie at 2-2. Heading into overtime, the Mules were ready to take action and with 3:49 remaining,
Georgia Pettygrove answered, giving the Mules an exciting 3-2 overtime win. Â Â
Colby will next rematch Hamilton again tomorrow in hopes of another win.
