Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Dominates Saint Joseph's

Waterville, Maine - The Colby women's soccer team opened the 2024 season with a resounding defeat of Saint Joseph's in a one-sided 9-0 rout. The Mules scored early and often in the first game of the Seth Benjamin era at Colby. The contest was the first matchup against the Monks since 2007, but the Mules took care of business against the non-conference opponent.

Sophie DiGrande opened the scoring in only the third minute and grabbed another only four minutes later. Abigail Jarvi scored in the 13th minute as the Mules peppered shots at the Monk's goalkeeper. Ella Caraluzzi, Catherine Watrous (twice), and Jadyn Liebman scored four goals within only five minutes of each other, right before halftime. Colby put up 21 shots in the first half, and at the midway point, they led by a commanding score of 7-0.

Throughout the game, the ball rarely entered the Mules' half of the field, and Colby dominated the time of possession, flexing its muscles against the outmatched Monks. Colby notched two more goals in the second half, with Madison Genser grabbing only her second career goal and Elo Luczkow finally getting a goal of her own after two assists.

The Mules will carry plenty of confidence out of the opener, but the schedule takes a much tougher turn with upcoming matchups against conference foes Bowdoin and Tufts and a difficult out-of-conference game against the University of Southern Maine. Catch the Mules next Saturday as they take on Bowdoin in the first leg of the CBB in Brunswick.
