Waterville, Maine - In the brutal NESCAC, teams are afforded little rest. On Sunday, the women's soccer team finished off a challenging doubleheader with another top-25 team in second-ranked Amherst.
The Mammoths, who are undefeated so far this season, came out aggressively against Colby and dispatched the Mules 3-0. Amherst got on the board early with a goal in the 7th minute and added another right before half-time despite chances from both sides.
Colby came out charging in the second half and started putting together solid possessions. Multiple times, the Mules found space inside the 18-yard box, but they could not find the back of the net. Still, they continued charging and played aggressively against a strong Amherst team.
Sophie DiGrande and
Kylie Thorp again found opportunities on the attack, and the Mules midfield played with precision during the second half.
In the 59th minute, Amherst all but sealed the game with their third goal of the afternoon, grabbing their fourth NESCAC win of the season.
Colby will look to put the weekend behind them with a midweek matchup against cross-town rival Thomas College. Colby has won every matchup against the Terriers since at least 1984, including an 8-1 victory last season. They will face Hamilton next Saturday in a critical NESCAC matchup. After this weekend, the Mules sit sixth on the conference leaderboard, with Hamilton behind them in seventh.
