Waterville, Maine - The Colby Women's Soccer team tied the single-game goal record on Tuesday as they defeated Thomas College 11-0. Colby scored early and often, easily controlling all aspects of the game and dispatching the Terriers.
Eight different players scored for the Mules, with the scoring starting in just the second minute on a shot from
Avery Barton and a second goal added 38 seconds later by
Sophie DiGrande. The Mules went into the halftime break ahead by a score of 5-0.
Colby was relentless to start the second half, and by the halfway mark, they led 11-0. Colby relaxed a bit to close the game but continued to be precise in their passing. DiGrande,
Madison Genser, and
Catherine Watrous all finished with two goals.
Ella Caraluzzi had three assists in the effort, bringing her to a team-leading five assists on the season.Â
Hannah Donahue,
Gabrielle Lazaro, and Barton all achieved their first goals of the season in the contest. In total, 21 different Mules saw playing time. Sophomore Goalkeeper
Talia Thompson made her first start of the season in goal and grabbed a clean sheet in the process.
Colby returns to action with a critical Saturday matchup against NESCAC foe Hamilton. That game kicks off in Clinton, N.Y., at 11:00 AM. A win there would mark the winningest season since 2018, when Colby made it through to the NESCAC Quarterfinals.Â
