Waterville, Maine - The Colby Women's Soccer team dropped a close NESCAC matchup to Williams on Saturday. The Mules, who have been superb to start this season, struggled offensively throughout the hard-fought contest.
Before the game, Colby honored its three seniors:
Sarah Watchman,
Charlotte Johnson, and
Emily McMaster. Watchman and Johnson both played critical roles off the bench during the match.
Colby held the Ephs in check for most of the first half, with Williams managing only one shot on target. The defensive battle looked like it would continue through the second half, but in the 55th minute, the Ephs snuck one past reigning NESCAC player of the week,
MK Marshall.
Colby pressed on with a few solid chances but could not find an equalizer as Wiliams escaped Waterville with a victory.
Sophie DiGrande and
Abigail Jarvi each had two shots in the effort. Defenders
Kylie Thorp and
Fati Salifu played critical roles in the back half, each tallying more than 60 minutes.
The Mules will look to bounce back on Sunday with another critical NESCAC matchup, this one against the reigning conference champion Amherst Mammoths. That game kicks off at 11:00 on the Mark R. Serdjenian Field.
