Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Aidan Simmonds

Strong Second Half Almost Draws Colby Level With #25 Amherst

Waterville, Maine - Colby hosted #25 ranked Amherst in their last home matchup before another four-game stretch on the road. The Mammoths showed why they're one of the best teams in the nation as they edged out Colby for a 1-0 The Mules are now 3-5 overall and 0-5 in NESCAC conference play.

Amherst controlled the ball and brought pressure from the kickoff. Brendan McCarthy came away with five saves from the first half but let one get by fifteen minutes in. Zane Matraji had Colby's lone shot of the half while the Mammoths registered 14. For the onslaught of offense that Amherst brought, the Mules held strong and were only down a goal heading into the break–keeping them in the game.

The second half was more evenly matched as both teams grappled for possession. Substitute Chase Dolinko had Colby's first real chance of the half that ended up winning the Mules a corner. However, it was all hands on deck defensively as Colby's back line, led by senior Alex Moretti, was structurally sound–the lone goal early in the first half justified their resiliency. In the end, both teams were split evenly, giving major props to how Colby finished the game.

The Mules are back in action on October 5th, heading down to Clinton, New York to take on Hamilton in another NESCAC conference matchup.
