Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Mules Take Down No. 9 Amherst 3-2 in Overtime

Colby and Amherst played an even game for the first 15 minutes, earning two and three penalty corners, respectively. Casey Winslow found the back of the net off of a feed from sophomore transfer Bridget Everett only 40 seconds into the second quarter, giving the Mules a 1-0 lead. Amherst was able to tie the game with three minutes remaining in the second quarter, as Molly Donegan found her second goal of the season, assisted by Anna Aiello, leaving the game 1-1 at half.

After 30 minutes Colby had tallied nine shots and seven penalty corners, whereas Amherst recorded 12 shots and only five penalty corners. Justine Liguori scored her fourth goal of the season for the Mammoths to give Amherst their first team of the game with only nine minutes to play in the game. Colby fought hard, earning six more penalty corners and 13 shots in the second half. With only four minutes to play, sophomore Maddie Campbell found her first goal of the season on a penalty corner, sending the game into overtime. Campbell recounts that "the Amherst game was probably one of my favorite wins of the season. It felt so good to come back and beat a nationally ranked team after losing to them in a close overtime game last season. Also an especially fun game as I had my first collegiate goal to tie up the game! It felt great to work as a team and achieve the outcome we wanted."

Colby dominated the Mammoths, earning a penalty corner just over a minute into the overtime period. Off of the corner, Molly Mitchell ripped a shot on net, and Winslow picked up the rebound and lifted it into the back of the net, earning her eighth goal on the season and second OT winning goal for the Mules. Leah Anderson collected a total of nine saves on the game, including a save on a penalty stroke in the first half.

Colby is back in action at Hamilton on Saturday at 11am.
