Colby Dominates Wesleyan in Straight Sets to Open NESCAC Season

Waterville, ME.- Colby Volleyball kicked off their NESCAC conference season with a resounding 3-0 victory over the Cardinals, winning in straight sets 25-23, 25-21, 25-22. This marks the Mules' first conference win, improving their record to 1-0 in the NESCAC and 7-1 overall, while Wesleyan drops to 4-4 overall and 0-1 in conference play. 

In the first set, Colby surged ahead early with key plays from LJ Grant and a block by Sydney Bopp and Marjorie Johnson. Despite Wesleyan's pushback, the Mules' strong defense and kills from Brady Moseley and two aces from Jordan Lee sealed the set 25-20. The second set saw Colby rally from a deficit to win 25-23, with kills by Bopp and Moseley, Cyanne Jones and Sarah Friedrichs. In the third set, the Mules got off to a strong start and quickly took a 4-0 lead. the Cardinals fought back after a timeout, narrowing the gap to 12-11, but Colby maintained their advantage through solid offensive plays from Jones and Grant. Wesleyan kept the pressure on, bringing the score to 21-21, but the Mules capitalized on crucial errors from the Cardinals. Two consecutive kills by Moseley, assisted by Jordan Lee, sealed the set for Colby, who won 25-22, resulting in the 3-0 sweep.

Colby's offense was impressive, tallying 45 kills with a .187 hitting percentage. Moseley and Grant led the attack, while the Mules added seven aces and 75 digs, led by Reese Loyd with 21 digs.

Next up, Colby Volleyball will host a doubleheader on Saturday, the 20th, with matches against Benedictine University at 12:30 PM and Emerson College at 2:30 PM. These games will provide another opportunity for the Mules to extend their strong start to the season.
