Medford, Mass. - The Colby College Field Hockey team played at Tufts University on Saturday afternoon. The Mules and the Jumbos battled through the heat in a back and forth game; unfortunately Tufts secured the 6-2 win with a strong 4th quarter. Colby now sits 1-1 overall in the NESCAC conference.
Tufts came out strong to start the game, registering eight shots in the first quarter, but the Mules fought back and held them off. Colby got on the scoreboard first, with a pass across the goal cage from
Elizabeth Takoudes to Bridgett Everett to find the back of the net. The Jumbos tied the game to make it 1-1 before halftime. The two teams continued to battle back and forth, but Tufts was able to net two more goals by the end of the third quarter. In the fourth quarter
Lily Harrington tipped the ball in off a feed from
Casey Winslow to cut Tufts' lead by half. Unfortunately, the Mules received a yellow card late in the game, leaving them to play a man-down for the last five minutes of the game. The Jumbos capitalized on this and netted three more goals to end the game.
Opal O'Rourke gave Colby a fighting chance and kept them in the game with nine saves overall.Â
Colby is back in action on Sunday at Thomas at 5pm.
