Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

The Mules Season Comes to an End Against William Smith

Middletown, Conn. - After upsetting #2 Wesleyan on Saturday, the 13th ranked Colby Women's Lacrosse team battled #9 William Smith on Sunday in a NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals matchup. Despite the Mules efforts, the Herons came out on top 14-6 to advanced to the semifinals.

The opening quarter saw the most offense in the game with William Smith scoring four unanswered goals following a 1-1 tie but Colby was able to find the back of the net twice more for a close 5-3 score heading into the second. The Herons picked up their pace of play in the second scoring four more times to the Mules one to open up their lead 9-4. Colby came out of halftime looking to close the gap as Julia Jardina netted a free position shot (her third goal of the game) but William Smith answered with two goals of their own in the third followed by three more goals in the final frame to take the game by a 14-6 scoreline.

On top of Jardina's three goal performance, Cami McDonald, Ainsley Dion, and Kins Helmer each contributed a goal a piece while Tate Ban and Ally Franz each had an assist. Sarah Hearns and Gigi Peloso had 10 combined saves in net. A big factor in the final result was the Herons 16 draw controls over the Mules five.

The Colby Women's Lacrosse team closes out the season with a 13-7 record and will be ready to go next spring hoping for another postseason run.
