Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse | | Aidan Simmonds

Middlebury Tops Colby in Defensive Game

Waterville, Maine - The Colby Men's Lacrosse team fell to Middlebury after a low-scoring 5-7 loss. The Mules are now 5-5 and 1-5 in NESCAC conference play. With four NESCAC conference games remaining, a loss today damages their postseason hopes but doesn't rule the Mules out as they sit only one game back of the last playoff spot.

The first half was quiet offensively as Middlebury found the back of the net once per quarter. The Panthers outdid Colby on shots but not by much. Will Heisler made eleven saves and the Mule defense helped keep Middlebury to only two. Colby trailed heading into the half 2-0.

Coming out of the break the scoring was back to normal. The Mules broke the deadlock as Bennett Goller fought his way through the Panther defense for the first, followed less than a minute later by Ethan Taerstein to tie the game. From then on Middlebury went on a run, scoring five straight to end the third quarter. In the fourth, Gavin Rothenberg and Cormac O'Neill combined for three goals as the Mules tried to stage a comeback but fell short. O'Neill scored the first two off assists from Rothenberg and less than a minute later, the Freshman put it past the goalie for his 23rd of the season. Heisler totaled 19 saves, the most of his career.

Colby is back in action Wednesday as they head to Brunswick, Maine to face rivals Bowdoin.
