Brunswick, Maine - The number 12 ranked team in the nation is really really good. Tonight Colby fell to Bowdoin 25-5, making them 5-6 overall and 1-6 in NESCAC conference play. After going toe-to-toe with 19-ranked Middlebury this past weekend, the Polar Bears were no match for the Mules.
From the whistle, Colby was on the defensive end. Will Heisler had a busy game in goal but came up with 10 first-half saves. Bennett Goller was on both ends of the scoring for the Mules as he tallied a solo goal in the first, and assisted Nick Sokolosky for Colby's second to end the half. The Mules trailed heading into the break 13-2.
The second half remained a tough test for Colby as Bowdoin didn't let up. Leading scorer Gavin Rothenberg continued his streak with an unassisted goal, the lefty getting a shot off in a sea of black to give Colby their third. Two more freshmen got on the scoresheet tonight as Easton Bello and Thomas Moreau closed out the fourth quarter with a goal each.Â
The Mules host the Trinity Bantams this Saturday at 1:00 pm, looking to bounce back and find their second NESCAC conference win.
