Waterville, Maine - The Colby College Softball team played a double header against Tufts University today, which served as their last home games of the season and also their senior day. They won the first game 3-2, which is their first win against Tufts since 2022 and their second win since 2006. Unfortunately they fell just short in the second game with a final score of 9-11. This brings the Mules to a season record of 16-16 and the Jumbos to 28-6.
    Game 1:
- The Mules got off to a strong start, with four hits just in the first inning. Grace Gouin and Chloe Wilcox singled to center field, followed by Courtney Schumacher also singling which allowed Gouin to score. Victoria Ramirez also singled in the opening frame.Â
- In the third, Wilcox hit an incredible home run to right field just out of the reach of the Jumbo rightfielder.
- Tied 2-2 in the sixth inning, Gouin flied out to center field followed by Wilcox hitting another spectacular home run to left field, giving the Mules that last edge over Tufts that they needed to win.Â
- Abby Orso pitched all seven innings, with 83 pitches total and one strikeout.
  Game 2:
- The Mules were down 0-7 until the fifth inning where they had a remarkable seven run comeback. Ramirez singled to center field and Lauren Ilano pinch ran for her. Juliana Kiley doubled to center field and Caroline DeSimone came on as a pinch runner. Kelsey Sullivan then walked to first and Liv Menyo singled to center field, allowing Ilano to score. Ayston Asadoorian then pitch ran for Sullivan and Menyo advanced to second on a wild pitch, leading DeSimone to score. Cassidy then tripled to left field while Menyo and Asadoorian both scored. Gouin grounded out to the third baseman, allowing Cassidy to also score. Wilcox walked to first and then advanced to second on a wild pitch, followed by Schumacher singling to center field and Wilcox scoring. Ramirez doubled to left field and Schumacher scored.Â
- Colby had an incredible sixth inning as well, with Sullivan immediately hitting a home run. Menyo then flied out to right field and Cassidy doubled to center field. Wilcox and Schumacher both walked to first and Ramirez flied out to center field.Â
- In the seventh and final inning of this game, Kiley re-entered and swatted her first collegiate home run, followed by Sullivan singling to center field.Â
- Payton Crowley pitched for two innings and Ashley Correll for five. Crowley had a total of 34 pitches and two strikeouts while Correll had a total of 85 pitches and one strikeout.
These were certainly a memorable last few games for the seniors, and the Mules will be back in action again tomorrow, April 28th, to play the University of Southern Maine at 11:00am and again at 1:00pm.
