Middletown, Conn. - The Colby College Softball team was defeated in a double header against Wesleyan this afternoon, with the first game ending in a score of 1-3 and the second 3-7. This brings the Mules to a season record of 12-14 total and 4-6 in the NESCAC. Wesleyan now has a record of 13-15 and 4-8 in the conference.
Game 1:
- In the first inning, Carissa Cassidy singled to left field and then proceeded to steal second. Kat Xiong popped up to the second baseman, followed by Chloe Wilcox grounding out to the pitcher.
- During the second, Juliana Kiley grounded out to shortstop, Ella Wilcox singled to left field, and Colleen McAvoy flied out to right field.
- In the fourth, Wilcox bunted to the pitcher, Ramirez grounded out to third baseman, and Kiley grounded out to shortstop.
- During the seventh and final inning, C. Wilcox singled to right field followed by Ramirez reaching on a fielder's choice. Caroline DeSimone pinch ran for Ramirez and then proceeded to steal second. Kiley singled to right field, allowing DeSimone to score. The game ended with Emma Burnham grounding out to shortstop.
- Abby Orso pitched for this game, with a total of 100 pitches and two strikeouts.
Game 2:
- Colby got a run straightaway in the first inning. Cassidy singled to right field and then proceeded to steal second. Ayston Asadoorian grounded out to the second baseman, followed by C. Wilcox flying out to left field and Cassidy scoring.
- During the second, Kiley singled to center field and Burnham bunted to first base. Katelyn Hays then popped up to the second baseman and Sullivan to popped up to shortstop.
- During the fourth, Ramirez singled to center field and Kiley reached on a fielder's choice. Kiley then advanced to second on a wild pitch, followed by Burnham grounding out to the third baseman.
- In the fifth inning, Hays walked to first and Justice Tiberi pinch ran for Hays and then stole second. Asadoorian doubled to left field, allowing Tiberi to score. C. Wilcox then lined out to right field.
- During the sixth inning, Ramirez grounded out to the third baseman and Kiley reached first on an error. Burnham then doubled to left center, followed by E. Wilcox singling up the middle and allowing Burnham to score.
- Ashley Correll pitched this game, with a total of 105 pitches and two strikeouts.
The Mules will play their Maine rivals, Bowdoin College, on Tuesday, April 23rd at 5:30pm and 7:30pm.
