Waterville, Maine - The Colby College Softball team gained two impressive wins against Bowdoin College today, the first game ending in a score of 7-5 and the second 3-1. This brings the Mules to a season record of 14-14 and Bowdoin to 21-11.
Game 1:
- Colby had a jaw-dropping comeback in the fourth inning, grossing in four runs. Ayston Asadoorian reached first base on an error and proceeded to steal second. Chloe Wilcox then walked to first, followed by Victoria Ramirez reaching on a fielder's choice. Caroline DeSimone then pinch ran for Wilcox and Lauren Ilano for Ramirez. Then, Emma Burnham hit a home run, leading Ilano, DeSimone, and Asadoorian to all score.
- The Mules took in another three runs during the sixth inning, starting with Wilcox singling to center field. Ramirez then singled to the pitcher and Burnham grounded out to the pitcher. Ella Wilcox then reached first on an error by shortstop and scored, followed by Ramirez and C. Wilcox scoring as well.
- Ashley Correll pitched the whole game, with a whopping 132 pitches and an impressive five strikeouts. Correll only allowed seven hits with five runs.
Game 2:
- Colby gained a lead in the third inning, starting with Juliana Kiley doubling to center field. Colleen McAvoy and Kelsey Sullivan both popped up to shortstop. Carissa Cassidy then reached first on an error, which allowed for Kiley to score. Cassidy then advanced to third on a wild pitch.
- During the fourth, C. Wilcox flied out to center field, followed by Ramirez singling to right field. Burnham then flied out to right field and E. Wilcox singled. Next, Kiley doubled to left field, resulting in E. Wilcox and Ramirez scoring. This inning ended with McAvoy grounding out to the pitcher.
- In the sixth inning, C. Wilcox singled to center field and Ramirez reached on a fielder's choice. Ilano then pinch ran for Ramirez and E. Wilcox grounded out to the second baseman.
- Abby Orso pitched this game with a total of 109 pitches total and a mind-blowing eleven strikeouts. Orso only allowed four hits and one run over the course of all seven innings.
The Mules will go on to play Bates College on Friday, April 26th at 3:00pm and again at 5:00pm in Lewiston.
