Mules Face a Close Game Against Trinity

Hartford, Conn. - The Colby College Softball team traveled down to Connecticut this weekend to play a double header against Trinity College. They lost the first game 2-5 but had a great comeback, winning the second game with a score of 8-7. This brings the Mules to a season record of 12-12 and Trinity to 17-10.

Game 1:
  • Colby scored their first run in the fourth inning, which started off with Ayston Asadoorian walking to first base and then proceeding to steal second. Chloe Wilcox then doubled to center field, allowing Asadoorian to score. Victoria Ramirez, Juliana Kiley, and Emma Burnham then all grounded to shortstop.
  • During the fifth, Ella Wilcox singled to right center and Liv Menyo flied out to right field. Ella Wilcox then advanced to second on a passed ball.
  • In the sixth inning, Asadoorian walked to first and Chloe Wilcox was hit by a pitch. Ramirez then flied out to center field and Kiley singled to right center. Burnham flied out to center field, leading Asadoorian to score.
  • Payton Crowley and Ashley Correll switched off pitching in this game. Crowley had a total of 34 pitches and one strikeout while Correll had a total of 93 pitches and three strikeouts. 

Game 2:
  • Colby got an impressive three-run lead in the third inning, starting with Chloe Wilcox hitting a home run to right field. Ramirez then grounded to shortstop, followed by Kiley and Burnham both walking to first. Justice Tiberi then substituted for Kiley at second and Ella Wilcox doubled to left field, allowing Tiberi to score. Colleen McAvoy then popped up to shortstop and Burnham scored. 
  • In the fifth inning, Kelsey Sullivan flied out to infield, followed by Cassidy singling to first base and then stealing second. Asadoorian grounded out to shortstop and Cassidy proceeded to score. Chloe Wilcox then singled up the middle and Ramirez flied out to infield.
  • During the sixth, Kiley walked to first and then advanced to second on a passed ball. Burnham and McAvoy walked, and Ella Wilcox reached on a fielder's choice. Menyo then pinch ran for McAvoy and Sullivan doubled to left field, allowing Ella Wilcox and Burnham to score. Cassidy then grounded out to the pitcher which led Menyo to score. 
  • In the eighth and final inning, Burnham doubled and Ella Wilcox singled up the middle allowing Burnham to score. 
  • Abby Orso pitched in all eight innings with a total of 117 pitches and three strikeouts.

The Mules will stay in Connecticut to play another double header against Wesleyan tomorrow at 12:00pm and 2:00pm.
