Waterville, Maine - The Colby College Softball team played a double-header against Williams College today where they lost the first game 5-8 but won the second game with a score of 6-2. This is the first time the Mules have won against Williams in the history of the NESCAC, which brings Colby to a season record of 11-11 and Williams to 11-8.
Game 1:
- In the first inning, Carissa Cassidy walked to first base and then proceeded to steal second. Courtney Schumacher walked to first and Victoria Ramirez flied out to center field.
- During the fifth, Colleen McAvoy singled to center field. Caroline DeSimone singled, followed by Ayston Asadoorian doubling and allowing DeSimone to score
- The sixth is really where Colby excelled, with a total of three runs. Schumacher singled to third base and then proceeded to advance to second on a passed ball. Ramirez singled to shortstop, followed by Juliana Kiley singling to center field, allowing Schumacher to score. McAvoy then singled to left field, leading Kathryne Clay to score. DeSimone then singled to center field which allowed Kiley to score.
- In the seventh, Schumacher singled to second base, advanced to second on a passed ball, and then proceeded to steal third. Kiley grounded out to shortstop, leading Schumacher to score.Â
Game 2:
- The Mules got an immediate head start in this game, with three runs in the second inning. Ramirez singled to center field, followed by Kiley and Emma Burnham singling. Ramirez then scored on an error. Chloe Wilcox singled to center field, which allowed Burnham and Kiley to score.Â
- In the fourth, Burnham singled to the catcher and Chloe Wilcox flied out to center field. McAvoy then reached on a fielder's choice, followed by DeSimone singling to left field. Cassidy then doubled to left field which allowed DeSimone and McAvoy to score.Â
- During the fifth, Schumacher and Ramirez both reached first on an error. Kiley then grounded out to the pitcher, allowing Schumacher to score.Â
The Mules will soon head down to Connecticut to play Trinity College on Saturday, April 20th at 12:00pm and again at 2:00pm.
