Colby Dominates Westfield in Non-Conference Game

Westfield, Mass. - The Colby Women's Lacrosse team took on Westfield State University in a non-conference match today, beating the Nestors 20-6. The Mules improve to a record of 9-4 overall.

The first quarter saw a lot of back and forth between Westfield and Colby, each team going on a multi-goal run before trading off to the other. The first quarter concluded with a score of 6-3 for the Mules. The Mules continued to pull ahead in the second quarter, scoring six unanswered goals at the start. After some back and forth to close out the quarter, the score heading into the second half was 14-5. Defense stepped up for both Colby and Westfield in the third quarter, holding the Mules down to only two goals and shutting out the Nestors. The score heading into the fourth and final quarter was 16-5. Colby came out swinging offensively to round out the game, scoring four times to Westfield's one, and rounding out the game with a final score of 20-6.

Colby's offensive line was raring and ready to go today with a few standout performers and the usual Colby range of players. Julia Jardina dominated today boasting seven goals, over a third of Colby's total, and an assist. Three different Colby players each scored twice, including Julia Maimonis who also had an assist. An additional seven players each scored once, including Ainsley Dion and Kins Helmer who each also boasted two assists. Dion's seven draw controls and Gretchen Biegel's three caused turnovers contributed to the Mules' success.

The Mules next compete at home against Williams College on Saturday, April 20, at noon.
