Waterville, Maine - The Colby College Softball team played another double-header today against Middlebury College, where they won the first game 2-1 and lost the second game 6-7, both incredibly close. This brings the Mules to a season record of 10-10 and Middlebury to a record of 12-8.
Game 1:
- In the first inning, Grace Gouin reached first on an error and then proceeded to steal second.
- Colby's first run was in the very seventh inning, which started with Courtney Schumacher doubling to right center. Emma Burnham walked to first, and was later able to steal second. Juliana Kiley flied out to center field, allowing Schumacher to score.Â
- In the eight and final inning, Ayston Asadoorian walked to first and then proceeded to steal second. Carissa Cassidy singled to the catcher and then also stole second. Gouin walked to first, followed by Chloe Wilcox singling to left field and allowing Asadoorian to score.Â
- Abby Orso pitched in all eight innings, with a whopping 149 pitches in total. She only allowed five hits and one run, and even had ten strikeouts.
Game 2:
- The Mules started off this game strong with an impressive three runs just in the first inning. Cassidy singled to right field and then stole second. Chloe Wilcox walked to first and also stole second, which allowed Cassidy to steal home. Schumacher homered to right center which led Wilcox to score. Additionally, Burnham doubled to right field, Kiley singled to left, and then stole second.Â
- In the third inning, Schumacher singled through the left side and stole second. Ramirez then doubled to left center, allowing Schumacher to score.
- During the fifth, Chloe Wilcox singled to right field. Schumacher walked to first, allowing Wilcox to advance to second. Additioanlly, Ramirez flied out to center field and Schumacher stole second.Â
- The seventh inning was by far the most exciting, starting off with Cassidy walking to first and proceeding to steal second. Chloe Wilcox flied out to center field, followed by Cassidy stealing third. Schumacher hit an impressive home run to right field, and Cassidy also scored.Â
- Ashley Corell and Payton Crowley both pitched in this game, Corell with 71 pitches and Crowley with 75.
The Mules will remain in Waterville to play a double-header against Williams College tomorrow, April 14th, at 11:00am and again at 1:00pm.
