Waterville, Maine - The Colby Women's Lacrosse Team came out on top tonight in a tight match against Bowdoin College, edging out the Polar Bears in a 14-11 win. The Mules advanced to a record of 4-3 in NESCAC and 8-3 overall.
Colby came out ready to fight in the first quarter, scoring 6 unanswered goals before Bowdoin scored their first. The score at the end of the quarter was a comfortable 7-2 lead for the Mules. It was the Bears' turn to showcase their skills in the second quarter, out-scoring Colby five goals to one. The half ended in a tight 8-7 lead for the Mules. Bowdoin continued the momentum into the second half, again out-scoring Colby and pulling ahead with a 10-9 lead at the end of the third quarter. The Mules were down but certainly not out, dominating offensively and defensively in the fourth quarter. By keeping the Bears down to a single goal and scoring a whopping five for themselves, Colby was able to retake and keep the lead to close the game. The final score was 14-11 for the Mules.
While Bowdoin's Emelia Krakora had an impressive showing with a hat trick, Colby had not one but two different players score a total of 10 goals, six thanks to
Julia Jardina and four thanks to
Ally Franz including the 100th of her career. Jardina also boasted an impressive nine draw controls, followed closely by
Kat Munter and
Julia Maimonis with five and four respectively.
Colby's next game is on the road in Hartford, Conn. against Trinity College at noon on Saturday.
