Softball Splits Day 4 in Florida

Clermont, Florida - The Colby College Softball team continued their spring training trip Tuesday in Florida, splitting the day with a loss in game 1 to Gustavus Adolphus College 8-3, and bouncing back in game 2 with a 5-4 win over Kalamazoo. The Mules are now 6-4, 4-4 on the spring trip.

  • Gustavus Adolphus was first to score in the bottom of the first thanks to three RBI singles. 
  • Victoria Ramirez drove the middle of the lineup, leading Colby with two runs batted in on a double to right center field that scored Chloe Wilcox and Payton Crowley in the third inning.
  • The Golden Gusties added to their early lead plating three more runs in the second inning and ne run in the third. 
  • Ashley Correl pitched three scoreless innings in relief.

  • The Mules took the lead in the bottom of the 3rd inning in the nightcap against Kalamazoo, breaking the silence of two scoreless innings for both teams. 
  • In the top of the fifth inning, the Hornets took the lead back thanks to a pair of walks, a single, and a fielder's choice that resulted in three runs. 
  • Colby jumped back into the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning after Chloe Wilcox tripled, scoring a run.
  • Up by one run in the top of the 7th, the tying run for Kalamazoo was thrown out at home plate by a solid throw from Ayston Asadoorian from right field to end the game. 
  • Abby Orso earned the win for the Mules allowing two hits and four runs (one earned) across seven innings, and striking out seven hitters. 
Colby continues their torrid pace Wednesday with a rematch of Tuesday.  They face Gustavus Adolphus at 10:00 AM followed by Kalamazoo at 12:15.
