Mules Bounce Back Saturday Against Knox

Clermont, Florida - The Colby College Softball team continued their spring training in Florida Sunday splitting the day against Knox College and #17 MIT. The Mules secured an impressive 11-1 win over Knox College in game 1 in five innings, but fell short against the tough MIT squad in game 2 with a final score of 6-1.

Game 1 Key Takeaways:

  • Knox College opened the game scoring first in their opening at bat, but that would prove to be their only run of the game.
  • The Colby Mules showcased their offensive power in the 2nd and 3rd innings scoring all 11 of their runs.
  • The speedy Carissa Cassidy led the Mules in hits going 3-3, while Courtney Schumacher led the team in RBIs, knocking in three runs on a base-clearing triple.
  • Victoria Ramirez had a strong outing at the plate going 2-3 and scoring 1RBI.
  • Kathryne Clay earned the win in the circle for Colby allowing only three hits and a single run across 3.0 innings.
  • Payton Crowley closed the game, pitching two scoreless innings for the Mules in relief and securing the mercy rule victory.

Game 2 Key Takeaways:

  • KC DeSarno sparked the Colby offense right away in the first inning with a drive to right field off MIT starter Caroline Langmeyer.
  • Schumacher followed with an RBI triple, scoring Chloe Wilcox who reached base earlier in the inning by way of a fielder's choice that erased DeSarno on the bases.
  • MIT answered back in the bottom of the first inning with two runs.
  • The Engineers plated four additional runs across the final innings and the Mules could not penetrate Langmeyer's control of the diamond, resulting in a final score of 6-1
Colby will see MIT again Monday afternoon after opening the day with a 10:00 AM matchup against Union.  The Garnet Chargers are looking for their first victory of the season.
